The Young Playwright's Project
CLT's upcoming Director Damarion Wooten:
Tells his story of the journey he is taking to become an amazing director. " Opportunity presents itself in many shapes and forms, for me this opportunity was Children's Legacy Theatre."
Children’s Legacy Theatre (CLT) is proud to introduce “The Young Playwright's Project (YPP).” YPP is an interactive, three-part playwriting experience designed for teens ages 14 to 18. It combines the best of in-person and remote educational experiences to empower students to share their unique stories, while developing their writing skills and learning about the theater arts.
The Young Playwright's Project is inspired by CLT’s Ten Minute Play Festival and presented in three phases. Phase 1 teaches students how to write a play, focusing on empowering the student imagination, learning the elements of a play and using those elements to write plays that help students develop problem-solving skills. Phase 2 allows students to hear their plays read and acted out by an intergenerational volunteer team of play readers. Phase 3, student's plays are fully produce and performed on CLT's main stage.
The YPP is presented during the Spring of each year and performed at the Anacostia Art Center, 1231 Good Hope Rd, SE Washington, DC 20020 The first plays will be presented May 26th-27th, 2023.
